I had gotten into the habit of doing these mish-mash “currently” posts on Fridays, but I’m going to try switching them to Mondays. It’s easier to recap the weekend that way, and talk about the plan for the week ahead.

We had a weekend that was both low key and still plenty full of fun. On Saturday we took the girls for sorely needed haircuts. Emma hadn’t had one since last August (right before school started) and Charlotte had NEVER had one at all.
I was a little worried about how Charlotte would handle it, since she’s generally wary of new things, but she did so great! She was able to watch Emma go first, and that helped a lot too. She didn’t get too much cut off the sides, since they were shorter, but she got quite a bit trimmed off the back. The length is much more even all around, and really cute.
And I saved a curl for her baby book. Aw.

We hit the pool on Saturday evening, of course. I think the girls and I have been to the pool at least once every weekend since it opened! Did I mention how awesome it is to live within easy walking distance of the pool?? It’s the best.

Yesterday we went to a birthday party at noon. It was outside. And sooooo hot. It was a “splish splash” party so there were plenty of water play activities set up for the kids, but man, it was a hot one. After about 20 minutes, I went over and let the kids enthusiastically spray me with their squirt guns and after that I felt much better.
After nearly two decades of Texas summers, I’ve finally decided that a key to making it more enjoyable is to simply accept that I will be sweaty. I will be sticky (and possibly stinky). I will be greasy from sunscreen. To pretend that I can somehow be outside while also appearing cool and calm is silly.
And so I am starting to dress accordingly, especially when I know I am about to be outside for a while. I wear more tank tops. I wear tech tees that I used to reserve for working out, and even bought some tech shorts — overall I am trying to wear things that feel lighter and more quick-drying than cotton or denim. Maybe I look like I’m really embracing athleisure, or maybe I just look sloppy. Honestly I’m not sure which, but I do know that I’m more comfortable.

This already feels like a weird week, knowing that there’s a holiday smack in the middle. We don’t have any big plans for the 4th, but between our neighborhood bike parade in the morning, a trip to the pool in the afternoon, and finding a place to see fireworks at night I think we’ll be covered!

We were at Disney in early June and I saw women dressed up in nice things—it was HOT. I was wearing tech items, like you mentioned, because I knew what to expect. I see people do this at the zoo, too. I’m like, whyyyyyy? It’s hot, aren’t you miserable?

I’ve come to the conclusion that either 1) they are miserable or 2) they are genetically blessed and do not sweat like I do! Lol!

I have also embraced the heat bc I won’t stay inside all summer! Yes, the athleisurewear does help and looks good too 😊 I have NOT embraced the bugs though and am getting mosquito treatment for the yard!! 👍🏻🚫
