Whew. I’m starting this post at 10:16 on Friday night and that’s pretty indicative of the doozy this week became after Jose and I got back from Los Angeles on Monday evening and went back to work on Tuesday.
Jose had class on Tuesday night, so I schlepped the girls along with me to take my mom to the airport for her flight back to North Carolina. I jumped back into my Orange Theory challenge on Wednesday evening, and Thursday night was another solo evening with the girls during which Charlotte was just generally grumpy and crying about every tiny perceived injustice she could find. I used every ounce of patience I had, but stayed calm, and was patting myself on the back pretty darn hard by the time I finally got both girls in bed.
Around 3:00 this afternoon, Jose found out that his best friend from college (who lives in New York) had a 7-hour layover at IAH before continuing to New Zealand, so he went up there to hang out for a few hours while the girls and I headed home. I made the executive decision to have pizza-and-movie night because it was just plain easier for everyone!!

On top of all that, I was absolutely swamped during my 4 days at work — swamped in a way I haven’t been in quite a while. I probably could have done a bit more advanced planning before going on vacation last week, and that might have alleviated some of the load over the past 4 days…but probably not much. Several things popped up unexpectedly that had to be dealt with, and I couldn’t have predicted any of them.
It was just one of those weeks where everyone seemed to have their hair on fire about everything. I am quite glad it’s the weekend.

My mom just left, but we’ve got another visitor arriving tomorrow — Jose’s mom. The girls are super excited to get some time with Momo after their awesome week with Gima. We don’t have any plans for her visit yet other than the standard weekend lineup of swimming lessons and errands, but since it’s rodeo season, that seems like an obvious choice for a fun activity. (Emma’s class is actually going on a field trip there next week, but we want to go as a family too.)

A random stranger took this photo of Jose and me at the Getty on Sunday, and it’s my new favorite picture of us. The Getty’s location is beautiful, the weather that day was sunny and clear, and the iPhone 8 Plus’s portrait mode just does a really nice job in general. Yay!

I love that picture too!!
