We made it successfully to my parents’ house in Charlotte yesterday! There were many times over the previous week when I wondered if we would need to reschedule or postpone the trip due to all our assorted illnesses, but that would’ve been a huge pain (not to mention expensive) so I’m glad we were all healthy — healthy enough, anyway — to go on.
Southwest’s only daily non-stop flight from Houston to Charlotte has migrated around the schedule to the point where it’s basically not a viable option anymore — it leaves Houston after 8 pm and arrives in Charlotte after 11, and the return trip leaves Charlotte at 5:30 am. So we sucked it up and got tickets on United, which means driving all the way across town to the “big” airport. There were several minor delays along the way that ultimately resulted in us making the flight with literally 5 minutes to spare. That did wonders for my stress level (sarcasm, obviously) but, we made it.
And thus we are here, with our barrage of various medications, and a forecast of very cold weather for the next several days. We saw my brother David last night. This morning, my parents handled the girls and Jose and I slept until 10:00!!! I can’t even remember the last time I slept that late. It was glorious.
My brother Brian and two of my nephews came over earlier. Right now I’m sitting with Charlotte while she goes down for a nap, and my mom just took Emma and her cousins Lucas and Thomas down to play in the park.
We have plenty of fun planned for the next week, and as expected, I’m already bemoaning the fact that we live far away from grandparents. Brian doesn’t realize how good he has it.
(Or maybe he does.)
p.s. I’m doing a 31 day blog writing challenge!

I can’t comment on the weather in Charlotte, but D.C. is ridiculously cold! I was going to take the dog on a walk this morning and I asked Alexa and she was like “its 19 degrees.” Um, no thank you.
Also, I know I’ve told you this before, but one of the times you’re in Charlotte, you and Jose should do an overnight getaway to Primland. It has a telescope in a silo! (And their spa was pretty badass too… and activities like horse back riding and skeet shooting and hiking… )
