When we moved 16 months ago, we admittedly didn’t know a ton about who our new neighbors would be — and honestly, we didn’t really spend time finding out. In our old house, we exchanged pleasantries with the people who lived on either side and across the street but that was about it. We didn’t have high expectations, and since we knew we were moving into a nice neighborhood in a nice part of town, we figured it’d be fine. Just not really something to spend a lot of time thinking about.
But it turns out that we kinda hit a neighbor jackpot, and it’s kinda been the very best thing about moving at all. Within the first couple months, we knew the names and faces of nearly everyone on both our street and the street next to us. And 16 months later, we chat with many of them regularly and have even been to parties at their houses. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but compared to the more isolated feeling we had in the old place, it’s huge. It feels like what I remember from growing up, when we knew everybody up and down the street for a dozen houses in a row.
And we REALLY hit the jackpot with our next door neighbors. They have a daughter who just turned 2 — she’s only 3 months younger than Charlotte! She had a birthday party in the park yesterday and this photo was taken towards the end, after crown-making and a joint wagon ride and while enjoying Peppa Pig cookies.
I have such fond memories of playing with a couple kids on my street when I was growing up. I LOVE that these two have each other as buddies and hope their friendship will continue for years to come. (Nobody better be moving anywhere!)
I mean, how cool would it be if we’re able to recreate this photo when they graduate from high school?
Pretty cool, I think.
p.s. I’m doing a 31 day blog writing challenge!

We moved into the exact same kind of neighborhood last summer and it is so wonderful. More than I could have imagined. I am so glad for you guys.
