Welcome to the October installment of my Barn Quilt Block of the Month project! This is a personal challenge I decided to give myself in 2017 to keep pushing my pattern-making skills and add to my overall quilting abilities. Each month I’ll pick a cool barn quilt, turn it into an actual block, write up a pattern, and list it in my Craftsy shop.
As an aerospace engineer, could I really resist a block named for the North Star — the point around which the whole sky turns? No. No I could not! Paper piecing makes this block quick and easy while also making accurate points a snap.
Get the North Star Block pattern here!
This block is paper pieced, the pattern has templates for a 12″ block, and it’s only $2! I don’t include paper piecing instructions in the pattern, but there are plenty of great resources online to help you. One of my favorites is the paper piecing tutorial at Blossom Heart Quilts.
Two more to go!

Nope, that one isn’t worth resisting, either! Hard to believe there are only 2 more months to go…

These are all fantastic! Any chance there will be package deal on Craftsy for all 12 patterns once they are finished?
Sarah says
Yes! I’m definitely planning to do just that — package them all together. They’d be $24 to buy each one individually but I’ll discount that a bit for the whole group. 🙂
