The last week has been 1) blocks for my mom’s quilt and 2) blocks for the Long Time Gone sew-along.
I’ve got 8 blocks done for my mom’s quilt out of a planned 12…but after laying them out on the floor a couple days ago, I decided that the quilt is going to be too small. Instead of 3×4, it really should be 4×5 so suddenly I’ve got 12 more blocks to make instead of just 4. It’ll be worth it in the end!
I mentioned last week that the Trip Around the World block was a doozy, but I loved my final result! Even the back looks cool, don’t you think? I was so energized by finishing it that I dove right into the next block on the list — Plus a Star — and finished that in a single night.
I’m still on track and sewing about a week ahead of the sew-along pace, so earlier this week I started working on the set of churn dash blocks. Um…y’all. These are SMALL. I have to make 21 and I’ve got 7 done so far. I’ve never really been a fan of the churn dash before. This experience is actually making me like them more…but not at this small of a scale! Tiny pieces are so fiddly.
And of course, there’s my latest Barn Quilt Block of the Month! These colors make me smile every time I see them. If you like it too, you can get the pattern here. Yay!

Tiny pieces can be very fiddly! It sounds like you are making great progress on everything right now.
I’m actually a bit surprised that I’m managing to stay on track since I set an (overly) agressive list of sewing goals for the next few months. But I’ll take it for as long as it lasts!
I agree with Yvonne. Looks like you are making great progress on all of your projects. They look great. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
You really are a talented quilter. Love your stuff!
Aw, thanks so much Kate! I appreciate the kind words!
Sarah, that trip around the world block is amazing! What size is it? I love all the different fabrics you used. Churn dash is one of my favorite blocks, but I’ve never made one as tiny as you have. That size might make me run screaming from my sewing room!
Thanks for linking to Main Crush Monday. I enjoyed seeing your projects, and I’m going to go check out that pattern for the barn quilt block!
Hey Beth! One of the conditions of the sew along is that we don’t post dimension — that’s all in the pattern, which anybody doing the sew along had to purchase. But suffice it to say that the Trip Around the World block is some of the smallest piecing I’ve done to date! I think the churn dashes are going to give it a run for its money though…eek!
You are amazing! Such progress in such a short time!
