Once a month or so, I share some current NASA-related items of interest. I firmly believe that more people knowing about what NASA is doing means more people willing to enthusiastically support our missions, so even if you don’t really follow space happenings on a regular basis (or at all), I hope you find these occasional posts interesting!
1 // It’s Super Bowl weekend and the big game is in Houston! NASA’s got a huge exhibit downtown as part of the NFL’s Fan Fest and I’ve been told there will be some spacey things included in the broadcast on Sunday. Yay!
2 // Twenty amazing NASA photos from 2016. Because you can never have too many awesome space photos!
3 // Ever wonder about some of the logistics involved on Earth when a crew comes back from space? These days, the only ride to and from the space station is a Russian Soyuz spacecraft that launches from and lands in Kazakhstan. NASA Public Affairs rep Dan Huot put together a pretty humorous video when he supported a crew return last summer. (Hint: Kazakhstan is very far away. But picking up people who were just in space is also very cool.)
4 // Want to hear a laundry list of short and sweet answers about Mission Control? Let me introduce you to my friend Mary, one of the flight directors for the ISS! I know cool people. Yay. (This is the long version; the short version is here.)
5 // You’ve probably heard of Humans of New York. A small team at Johnson Space Center recently started a HONY-inspired effort called Humans of JSC and I’m really enjoying their posts! JSC is a lot like a college campus — there are thousands of people and you definitely don’t know everyone. This has been a fun way for me to learn a little more about the people I share a worksite with.
