Listening // To Young House Love Has a Podcast. Because while they haven’t really restarted their blog, they do have a podcast — as the title so clearly suggests. (Ha.) I listened to their first two episodes and really enjoyed it. Also, their episodes so far are in the 20-30 minute range which is awesome. I think there need to be more podcasts that are around half an hour, instead of an hour or more.
Changing // The channel in the work breakroom every chance I get. I’m just so tired of listening to the news, so consider this my little act of defiance I guess. It’s usually (as in, like 99% of the time) tuned Fox News. I change it to NASA TV which is both 1) appropriate and 2) not a news channel. Inevitably it’s back on Fox News the next time I go to the break room, but hey, I’ll take what I can get.
Swimming // With Charlotte! We started parent-child lessons last night, conveniently in the same time slot — and at the other end of the same pool — as Emma’s class. It was pretty hectic trying to get both girls and myself changed in the (not air conditioned) dressing room, but the rest was fun. Charlotte loved the pool and loved splashing water everywhere. I plan to do the summer session with her, and then in September we’ll go back to just Emma’s lessons. Next summer I’ll start up with Charlotte again, and get to the point where she can do them on her own like we did with Emma. Of all the possible kid activities out there, swimming is my highest priority. It’s a life skill…but it’s also fun!
Realizing // That summer is here. Spring was nice, and all the rain we had in May kept the temperatures down a bit. But now it’s June and the heat has officially arrived. Sigh.
Learning // That my kids are 5th generation Texans after Jose did a little digging on Ancestry.com and found out that his great great grandfather came here from Mexico in 1874. I assume that would mean that my kids are Mexican according to Donald Trump — zing!
Anyway, Emma and Charlotte are the 5th generation to be born in Texas. That is crazy. As I said on Jose’s Facebook post, I’m not sure how I feel about having birthed 5th gen Texans…but on the other hand, I think this makes me totally legit as a Texan myself, in addition to being a North Carolinian. It’s like dual citizenship, right?
Of all the news channels that might be on in a NASA break room, FOX is definitely not the one I would have guessed.
The number of people who hate the government while simultaneously being employed by the government is…surprising.
Hey, I live in Scott Walkerland. I get ya.
I am really glad we don’t have a TV in our breakroom. I hate background noise! Actually, I guess we have a silent TV tuned to a live stream from our launch site and our manufacturing area.
Also, I don’t think I have ever seen Fox news in my life. I guess it’s not popular around here, plus we I haven’t lived in a place with cable since the I finished at Georgia Tech.
I’m at a loss for words. You have never seen Fox News??? That is jaw dropping to me because it is on EVERYWHERE here. (And don’t worry, you’re not missing out.)
Actually, I think you should watch some Fox news as a cultural phenomena Jen.. Watch it for a long enough time to see their “strategy” of how through several shows they repeat stories and then use the same buzz words, kind of like a continuous drum beat. Then you’ll understand more the political discourse in this country.
I have to watch it every time I visit my Dad… and fox news did brainwash him (I think there’s a podcast on this subject)..
I’ve never understood why Fox is the first choice. I’d put it on something completely absurd like Lifetime.
I listened to one episode of YHLHAP but I wasn’t sure if I liked it. I never read their blog and though I know of them, but wasn’t into them. Also, I’m not really into design and decorating..so. I’ll probably pop in from time to time.
Lots of good podcasts starting up recently. I wish iTunes would figure out a better way to search and sort them. I keep finding podcasts mentioned elsewhere on the ‘net that *never* come up with certain search terms that are appropriate for those podcasts are typed in. It’s frustrating. I would have thought iTunes would have been on top of that with the sudden rise in popularity of the platform.
I wasn’t actually reading much of their blog anymore towards the end — they posted almost TOO often and TOO much for me to keep up with. They are pretty talkative and I think their podcast editing could use a little work, but overall I liked it.
