I live in the suburbs. It’s just what you probably imagine when you hear the word “suburbs” — a little plain, a little bland, a lot of cookie-cutter new construction, a bunch of big box stores. It’s nothing special, but it’s nothing awful either. It is what it is.
But here’s the other thing. In the suburbs, we sit between big urban attractions and the Texas countryside — the sometimes wild, often wacky Texas countryside. And that’s where you can find things like the Bayou Wildlife Zoo. This place is essentially a private collection of random animals, and it’s less than 20 minutes from my house. Emma and I spent a few hours there with friends on Saturday hanging out with ponies, feeding llamas and ostriches, looking up at giraffes, petting some goats and more. It was a fun way to spend a beautiful spring-in-February morning.
Oh Texas. Never change.
