(opens mouth wide)

Emma is pretending to read a card that was on one of my Christmas presents.
Emma: “Dear Mama, you are my true love.”
Me (laughing): “True love? Where did you learn that?”
Emma: “In Spanish.”

Some action movie with giant Godzilla-like monsters is on TV and Emma suddenly takes notice. Jose pauses it since it’s not exactly the most kid-friendly thing.
Emma: “Play it Daddy!”
Jose: “Nah, we’re not going to watch this anymore.”
Emma: “But I wanna watch it. It’s my favorite movie!”

We are in the car and “Uptown Funk” comes on the radio.
Emma: “We heard that song at Arianna’s birthday party.”
Arianna’s quiceanera was in July and the DJ played dozens of songs. Her memory astounds me.
