This year I’m participating in Ali Edwards’ One Little Word workshop. My word is “enough.” All of my OLW posts are here.
I was a few days late in finishing October’s prompt but wrapped it up early last week. This month’s prompt was to focus on one thing — big or small — for each of the following categories: self-care, celebrate, and give. For something that should have been really easy, this one was surprisingly hard.
I haven’t done a lot of self-care since Charlotte was born, because I’ve hardly been by myself since then. My last pedicure was in August, my fingernails are bare and breaking, and some days I don’t shower. (Cliche but true.) But I have been walking, and now running, and even though I’m pushing a heavy stroller with a (sometimes crying) baby inside, it’s still something I do just for me. Self-care indeed.
As for giving, I don’t have a lot of time to do that either — unless you count taking care of my kids and household as giving, and I felt like the point was to go a little bit beyond the usual. So when a friend asked if I could make two bags for her, I said yes. I figure it’s never a bad idea to give to my friends…and since sewing is involved, I’ll admit there is some self-care involved too.
The easiest one was celebrate, because we had a lot of fun things going on in October. I thought about Emma’s field trip, the pumpkin patch, and even Halloween itself but ultimately I decided that the thing we truly celebrated more than anything was Jose’s safe return from Moscow. We didn’t throw a party or do anything elaborate, but Emma made a welcome home sign and I baked a pumpkin pie (his favorite), and we were all very happy to have him back.
