Emma’s “New” Room

We’ve made several changes to Emma’s room over the last 5 months! (Here’s what it looked like until now.) While I wouldn’t really call this her “big girl room” just yet, it’s definitely not a nursery anymore either.

With Charlotte on her way, we needed both a crib and a dresser and a glider/chair for her room…and instead of buying new baby furniture, we decided to use what we already had for Charlotte and buy new stuff for Emma!

We looked at a few local furniture stores for a twin bed and didn’t like much of what we saw so I turned to the good ol’ internet. Emma’s new bed and dresser both came from Land of Nod. I was nervous about ordering fairly pricey items without seeing them in person, but I was really happy with the delivery process (they arrived in late June, ~2 weeks after I placed the order) and quality of the furniture. They should definitely last Emma for many years.

(And man, I seriously need to get cracking on making Emma a new twin-size quilt. That triangle quilt worked find in her toddler bed but is just comical on this bed.)

The only negative of the new furniture is that the locations are now switched — the dresser is where Emma’s crib was, and the bed is where her dresser used to be. This means there’s a photo gallery wall just above her bed now. (I took these photos on Tuesday, and yesterday I actually changed out four of the photos. Instead of lots of baby photos, there are now some family shots!)

Although we haven’t had any knocking-frames-down incidents so far, it doesn’t seem like the ideal location for the gallery wall. I’d like to move it over the dresser…

…but if I do, I’d have to take down the airplane wall decal. And I adore that decal! So for now I haven’t done anything but if I do move the frame gallery, I’m somewhat seriously considering re-buying the same decal.

A smaller change I made last week was to replace some baby-themed things on the wall above her bookshelf with two magnetic strip bulletin boards. I think these will be a fun way to hang some of Emma’s artwork! (We also have a lot of it hanging in the kitchen.)

I made another smaller change (that I didn’t take pictures of) in the closet, where I installed a tension rod low enough for Emma to reach herself! She can now hang up her dress up clothes and nightgowns and retrieve them later. This was literally a 10-second change that made a big difference.

And finally, the last big change in the room was to replace the glider (which moved to Charlotte’s room) with this small couch. It was simple and inexpensive and has worked out perfectly! Emma was really getting too big to sit on our laps to read before bed anyway, so now we sit next to each other and it’s more comfortable for everyone involved.

So that’s that! Emma’s revamped room is complete. Now to finish up Charlotte’s room…
