It’s been a while since I posted a quilt inspiration roundup! But with several items recently checked off my to-do list, I’ve been brainstorming ideas for two new quilts — one for my arriving-any-day-now niece or nephew and one for Emma’s new twin bed. (A twin quilt will actually be the largest I’ve tackled thus far, which is a little exciting but also a little intimidating!) Here are five that have caught my eye over the last few months:
1. This Triangle Mountain Quilt was on Etsy and has since been sold — but I really like the small but clever twist on a more basic triangle quilt (like the one I made for Emma two years ago).
2. This Geometric Rainbow quilt is one of several by Nicole Daksiewicz that feature basic hexies appliqued in interesting configurations. This technique is on my “to try” list, although I think I’ll apply it to something small like a mini quilt.
3. I also love this Cross Stitch Sparkle quilt by Wombat Quilts. I’m continually amazed by how many lovely and unique configurations can be made with simple half square triangles.
4. I saw several different photos of the Gypsy Wife quilt by Catherine Mosely that was on display back in February at QuiltCon, and I kind of can’t stop staring at it. Part of me thinks it is way too busy…but part of my is obsessed with how all of the blocks and colors come together with the black and white stripe. Really cool.
5. I’m also kind of obsessed with Lee Heinrich’s Moroccan Lanterns pattern, which I will probably be buying soon. Every time I see a Moroccan pattern, I always think about how it could be turned into a quilt!
I love the geometric rainbow quilt! Though, I would try to adjust an 1-color ombre scheme.
As you know, I’m working on twin quilt number two. The only really annoying / hard part has been the basting. There seriously must be a better may to baste a large quilt than the way I’ve done the last two (on my hands and knees on the hardwood floor with spray glue.)
