I’m doing 30 Days of Creativity this month for the fourth year in a row. Even though it’s no longer an “official Internet thing,” I still think it’s fun. Here’s Week 1 if you missed it.
I’m happy to report that I did something creative every day. But for the coming week, I’m hoping to challenge myself to do a few things that are a bit different from my norm. Maybe try to draw something instead of sew, or write something instead of mocking up patterns in Illustrator. Any ideas?
June 9-11 – I spent these three days playing around with an idea for a quilt pattern that I got from an envelope I saw at the post office, of all places — first figuring out what each block would look like using Illustrator, and then figuring out how I’d piece it together (which was not as simple as I’d hoped). If I ever write a quilting book (pipe dream but hey, you never know!), perhaps it will feature designs I’ve made inspired by “found” patterns elsewhere.
June 12 – I’m still working down the “to do” list that I laid out in early April. The first two are done and #3 and #4 are now in work. Number 3 is the Riley Blake fabric challenge put on by the Modern Quilt Guild and I’ve been trying to come up with something neat to do. One of the requirements is to do something new, that I’ve never done before. At the moment, my idea is to tackle a cathedral window mini, so I did some (crappy) digital sketching to figure out print layout and how much fabric I’ll need.
June 13-14 – Number 4 on that list is the Oodalolly quilt I’ve mentioned a couple times lately. I finished the top on Saturday and got the quilt sandwich basted on Sunday night!
June 15 – I was feeling pretty low energy last night, so I kinda copped out — all I did was cut some more paper pieces for my La Passacaglia and glue baste a few more pentagons.
Wow! I love your “found” quilt design. I find myself staring at tile patterns on the floor all the time. Maybe my pipe dream quilt book would be Quilts Inspired by Bathroom Floors.
