We had a nice Thanksgiving and long weekend in Corpus Christi…even though we celebrated Thanksgiving morning with Emma’s first trip to the ER! Jose woke up around 6 a.m. that morning to the sound of Emma’s very rapid breathing, almost like panting. A couple puffs of her inhaler didn’t help, and when I held her I noticed her heartbeat was racing too. By 7:30, she was running a 102 fever.
We were both worried that her bronchitis (which she’d just finished 5 days of antibiotic for) had turned into pneumonia (which she had when she was 9 months old, so we’re skittish about it). The holiday, plus the fact that we weren’t at home, meant that the ER was the only real option.
We were there for 3.5 hours. She got a chest x-ray which turned out to be negative (whew) so in the end, all she really needed was…Tylenol. That made me feel kind of like an idiot, but oh well.

As you can see, we were all grins again by later that afternoon, despite our stressful morning. Thanksgiving was at Jose’s aunt Mary’s house so we were there from noon until around 8:00 that evening. Emma crashed for an epic nap around 3:00, exhausted from all the activity and the morning’s ER fun. She didn’t seem too interested in all the yummy food — except for the biscuits and cupcakes, that is. But it was all delicious in my opinion!

While hanging out at Jose’s aunt’s house, we discovered that Emma is quite the little speed demon on a tricycle these days! Maybe another good Christmas present idea…although I’m also toying with the idea of a balance bike.

I can’t help but share one more bit of cuteness — her outfit from yesterday, which was “picture day” at school. I figure there’s a 50% chance we get a photo of her making this cheese face and a 50% chance that she didn’t cooperate with the photographer at all. We’ll see!

So, here’s the thing: I love the IDEA of Project Life. It’s basically what I’d call “modern scrapbooking” and I’ve been admiring various people’s albums from afar for a couple years now. I would totally love it if an album for my own family magically appeared…but fat chance of that, right? For now, I remind myself (yet again) that neither my to-do list nor my sanity have room for another “little” project.
But then I read stuff like this (from Grace and Light) that makes it sound so easy, and I start to think “well maybe…”

I hosted recipe club on Wednesday night. We were supposed to have 5-6 people so I cleaned off our dining room table! If you recall, the dining room has really been my sewing room for the past 2 years…so clearing it off was no small feat. I had to move my sewing machine, cutting mat, cross stitching, and several piles of fabric and various in-work projects.
It looks so nice now that part of me wants to leave it like this and move my sewing stuff back upstairs! I’m not quite ready to do that (the benefit of having my sewing stuff in the heart of the house is still too great) but I am going to take this opportunity to minimize the amount of stuff I have out. I’ll bring back my sewing machine and cutting mat, obviously, but I can keep all of my “in work” piles in the office, and pull them out as needed.

I love this post from Elise so, so, so much.

I had to smile at your Project Life comment because I feel the exact same way about sewing/quilting. I WANT to do it, but I’m just not sure I can make myself make time for it among everything else that I am doing. I feel like it would be a huge learning curve and financial investment that seem a bit overwhelming. BUT. I kind of want to allow myself to go for it. Too bad we don’t live next door to one another – we could help each other out! 🙂
