The last week has certainly been fun and full!

Last Friday I chatted with Sarah Bagley for an upcoming episode of her podcast! I know, me as a podcast guest — crazy! But she commented on one of my posts from September where I mentioned how much I enjoy her podcast, and that prompted me to take a shot in the dark and ask her if she thought I’d be a good guest…and she did! It was really fun talking to her, and you’ll be able to hear our discussion on one of her planned December episodes.

On Saturday, we met Cindy and Jake at a local park. The kids had a great time running after each other, climbing the play structures, and enjoying the slides — and then we all got to take in a beautiful fall sunset over the bayou. Even though I wish it didn’t get dark so early, this really is such a lovely time of year.

On Sunday we discovered a new-to-us local gem — the annual Martyn Farm Festival held at Armand Bayou Nature Center. They had a slew of fun activities (including several that will be even better when Emma is another year or two older) and it doesn’t draw a ton of people which gave the whole thing an awesomely laid-back feel. We’ll definitely go back next year.

We had Tuesday off work in honor of Veteran’s Day, and decided to double down on our family fun by checking out the Houston Children’s Museum. We’d hoped that it wouldn’t be too crowded on a weekday, but that didn’t really work out — there were hordes of elementary-aged kids on field trips. Still, Emma had fun.

One of the moms from Emma’s daycare classroom took the initiative to plan a “mom’s night out” on Wednesday. Seven (of 14) women made it out, and we had a great time at dinner! I’m looking forward to more in the future. Our kids were all together as infants, were split between two rooms last year, are back together again this year, and will continue to be (mostly) together until kindergarten. I know some of the moms well, but have hardly ever talked to others, so I’m excited to get to know them better.

Emma and I are continuing parent/child swimming lessons through the end of the year, and I’m hopeful that she will be able to move up to the next level in January, where she would be on her own with two other kids and one instructor. The pool is heated, but the building is only semi-heated — it’s more like a glorified tent than an actual building. In the summer this obviously wasn’t a problem, but yesterday it was in the 40s outside, and getting out of the pool at the end of class was COLD.

So yeah. Basically the weeks are flying past and I can barely believe it’s mid-November already. This weekend I need to spend some time planning holiday activities and plotting out some family gift-buying.
