On Saturday we met up with some friends at the zoo for some morning fun! Meryl, James and their two kids live in The Woodlands which, while still part of the Houston area, is on the completely opposite side of town from us. We hadn’t seen them in several years (yes, years) until they came down for Emma’s birthday party in August, and after that we resolved to meet somewhere in the middle every so often from now on.
So: the zoo! It was the perfect meetup spot, and October is Zoo Boo month so it’s decked out for Halloween. (The photo above was taken on our way out, hence Emma was zonked out in the stroller after a morning of fun.)
The morning elephant baths were, as expected, a huge hit.
Several of the Halloween activities were geared towards slightly older kids, but Emma did get to decorate a mini pumpkin with paint pens. Fun! (We’ll have to put on her Halloween costume if we go next year. There were a lot of kids in costume!)
There were some scattered showers in the area, but they didn’t put a damper on our fun. We were able to wait out the worst of it (which still wasn’t that bad) in the chimpanzee house.

One of the highlights was feeding the giraffes, which I had never done before. It was so cool!

We also rode the carousel — and we had no real choice in the matter, since Emma had been talking about it as soon as she heard we were going to the zoo! She remembered it from when we were last there in May for Keagan’s birthday, which was kind of amazing to me.

If you love to feed the animals you need to go to Bayou Wildlife park in Alvin.
