My grandmother, who passed away in July, would have been 100 today! Her whole family will be gathering in a couple weeks to celebrate her life and I’m looking forward to reliving many happy memories with her. That’s her with me at the beach in 1979 in the photo above.

Add one more thing to my list of pumpkin spice loves — Pumpkin Spice Oreos. The first one tasted a bit weird…but let me assure you that after taste-testing a dozen more over the last several days, they are indeed yummy. (I swear there is some sort of chemical in Oreos that makes you want more.)

There are some new houses under construction in the adjacent section of my neighborhood, so last weekend Jose, Emma and I walked through two of them that are fully framed but not drywalled yet. I am still vicariously house hunting, and thus was mentally planning what I would do with each room as we walked through.

Can you spot the toddler in this photo? She cracks me up these days.

I made these crab and cream cheese roll-ups for recipe club earlier this week. They were really easy, and really tasty!

We need a new trash can for our kitchen, so I decided it’s time to splurge and get a nice, fancy one…except I’ve now bought two of them and had to take each one back. The first came from Walmart, but when I got it home and put a trash bag in, I discovered that there was no way to avoid seeing the bag peeking out from under the lid. For $50, I don’t want to see the trash bag. So I took that one back, and got one from Target that looked better — but when I got it home, I discovered that while you couldn’t see the bag, there was also nothing to keep the bag from falling down into the can each time you throw something in it. For $80, I don’t want that problem either! So back it went.
Oh, trash can sagas. Talk about ridiculous.

A “cool” front came through last night and the weather is so awesome this morning! I hope it sticks around for the weekend.

Our trashcan requires us to use a bag-securing elastic band…
