We are currently on our first official family trip — and by that I mean a trip involving all 3 of us to a destination other than visiting relatives. Hooray for us! We arrived in Boston yesterday and will be heading to Cape Cod today. The reason? Jose’s best friend from college is getting married tomorrow! I’ll write more about our trip next week.

I started another “rotation” this week at work. For those keeping score at home, this is my third in a row — I was on a partial rotation to the Public Affairs Office for a year, then I spent June-August supporting the ISS Chief Safety Officers (CSO) full-time. For the next 3 months, I’ll be acting as the lead for my group while our usual Group Lead is off working on a special assignment. Whew! It’s a lot, but I am really enjoying the opportunity to do so many different things.

On Wednesday as part of my CSO work, I presented a set of charts on recent ISS issues to the JSC Center Director, the Deputy Center Director, and a slew of other higher management. I’ve given a lot of presentations over the years and generally consider presenting to be one of my strengths…but it’s amazing what a room full of people with important titles will do to my confidence. My nerves were a mess and I could feel my face burning, but overall I think it went ok.

Last weekend we had a babysitter (one of Emma’s teachers from last year) come over to our house while Jose and I went out to dinner and a movie…and it. was. AWESOME. Emma is super comfortable with Brenda because she saw her every weekday for a year — she ran up to give her a hug, went crazy showing her all her books and toys, and barely noticed when Jose and I left. I was giddy the entire night! Babysitting FTW!

I got a haircut last Saturday and went pretty short. You can see in the photo above how cute it looked all curled and styled, and the good news is that it looks ok even when NOT curled and styled — aka when I just let it air dry like I do on almost every single day of the year. I like it!

One of Emma’s latest “things” has been giving instructions on where to turn while we’re driving. She pipes up from the back seat with a “this way” or “that way” — which is actually super cute until she starts doing as she did on Tuesday evening and getting upset and whiny when I didn’t turn the way she instructed. Never mind the fact that we drive home the exact same way every day. On Tuesday, she apparently wanted to go somewhere else.

Emma makes some of the best expressions these days. I just want to squeeze her all the time. The end.
