Please enjoy this video from Emma’s party last weekend, courtesy of Gavin — proof that she hates group singing right now…but loves cake!

We took Emma to the pediatrician on Tuesday for her 2-year checkup. She has HATED going to the doctor for basically her whole short life, it keeps getting worse, and last time we were there (only a month ago when she got hand, foot and mouth) she started whimpering before we even left the waiting room and was in full-on meltdown by the time her booty hit the scale.
So I got her a toy doctor kit (as previously mentioned), and we’ve been playing with it and talking about visiting Dr. P, and on Tuesday we took along one of her favorite books and the toy stethoscope…and you guys?? It totally worked!! Emma whimpered a little bit, but never started actually crying until she got 1 shot at the end — and crying at shots is totally to be expected.
I’m so proud of her!

I’ve continued doodling as part of the #spoonchallenge, and this week they encouraged everyone to incorporate text and/or hand-lettering into each drawing. You can see one of mine above. It’s been fun doing these!

Here we are halfway through August and I haven’t even begun this month’s Once Upon a Time sampler block. I’m behind on my Halloween Town piece as well. Eek! I’m hoping to get a little bit of stitching done this weekend.

I haven’t been stitching because I’ve been sewing! My 4-quilts-in-a-month goal is still underway. I’m still not sure that I will get all four 100% done by the end of August, but early September seems very achievable.
A peek at one I’m calling “Diamond Stripe,” inspired directly by this West Elm art
Current status? I’ve finished piecing the tops for 3 of them (the one seen above was the most involved). The backings for each of those 3 are also ready to go (one backing is pieced, the others are single fabrics and therefore super easy), and I’ve even made binding for each as well. That’s 3 quilts that are now ready to be basted, quilted, and bound — not bad!
The “problem child” is #4, which I haven’t started at all — in fact, I don’t even have fabric for it.

After this, I really don’t think I will be able to mention my Master’s Project anymore for a long time — but look at those things in my bag! I finally got my personal bound copies back from the library! I have to admit they are kind of underwhelming in their drab gray covers…but still awesome to have. My engineering master’s didn’t require a thesis, so it’s cool to have one to show off this time.

We discovered on Wednesday night that Emma LOVES Thai sweet chili sauce. We didn’t give her any at first because I thought she wouldn’t like the spiciness, but she saw us dipping pieces of chicken into it and wanted to dip her chicken too. I’ve never seen her eat chicken as fast as she did after that!
Lesson learned: let Emma decide what she likes or doesn’t like, instead of deciding for her.
