Kindle app for iPad. I usually find the iPad too big to read on and definitely prefer using my actual Kindle — but this month I’ve rediscovered my love for the app for one specific purpose: reading while running on the treadmill. It makes the ‘mill bearable and even somewhat enjoyable when I can’t run outside.
Kemp’s Black Cherry Frozen Yogurt. My favorite ice cream as a kid was always mint chocolate chip but for years now, I’ve loved fruity or berry flavors. This stuff is really, really yummy and tastes like ice cream, not yogurt.
HEB Key Lime & White Chocolate Chip Cookies. Jose is such an impulse shopper at the grocery store. He threw these in our cart, much to my chagrin — because they were awesome, and I ate way too many of them.
Homemade playdough. This is the stuff I made as party favors for Emma’s birthday party and it’s a winner. I got the recipe from my mom, who got it from one of my preschool teachers 30+ years ago, who got it from who knows where. Everything in it is a pantry ingredient, so it won’t hurt your kid if they eat it (although it tastes VERY salty).
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 cup salt
- 1 cup water
- 2 tsp cream of tartar
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- Food coloring (optional)
Mix everything and cook it over medium heat until it’s so stiff you can’t stir it anymore, which only takes a couple minutes. I recommended adding food coloring at the beginning, because it’s easier to mix the color in while everything is still liquid-ish. Store it in a plastic bag or airtight container.
One Bad Mother podcast. I started listening from the beginning, and one of the hosts has a son not much younger (at least back then) than Emma is now. This is definitely my favorite recent podcast discovery. The only downside? They swear a lot, so I can’t listen with Emma in the car.
