When we were in Jamaica at the end of June, I bought one of those old school disposable, waterproof film cameras for our outing to Dunn’s River Falls. It sat in my purse for a couple weeks before I remembered to take it to a drugstore, and when I did, I found out that most of the stores around here don’t even develop film in-store anymore. They send it out, and it takes 2+ weeks to come back. In any case, I finally got the photos back on Tuesday!
Those cameras really do take crappy photos BUT they are crappy photos I am very happy to have. The blurriness and overexposure is even sort of appropriate, since my memories of the trip are warm and fuzzy.
The falls were super crowded, and climbing was slow, but it was such a neat experience that I didn’t even care. You start down at the beach (the river runs down into the Caribbean) and climb a few hundred feet up. It’s very slippery! You have to hold hands with the people ahead and behind you, and it takes about an hour or so to get to the top.
The water was surprisingly COLD for it being Jamaica, and hot, and tropical, etc! You can see how Jose and I reacted as we sat down in it for the first time.
There was a little natural slide too, so of course we each took a turn.
After our trip to the falls, I still had a few exposures left on the camera so I took it down to the beach that afternoon.
This was looking from the water back up towards one of the buildings at the resort. Our room was on the top floor right behind that red flowering tree — in fact I think that was our balcony that’s just peeking through on the right edge of the photo, framed by palm trees on either side and the red tree below.
Floating in the water was definitely Jose’s happy place.
In summary: Jamaica is nice.
I just love the way you look so unbelievably happy in that one picture.
