My Pointy quilt — made from a pattern by Elizabeth Hartman that I’m testing for her — is coming along nicely! Last week I shared some photos of my cutting and piecing and by Saturday, I had both a finished top and backing.
There are instructions for two sizes included in the pattern, a small and a large, and I chose to make the small one which measures ~35″x35″.
When I bought the blue background fabric last week, it was the end of the bolt so I couldn’t get quite as much as the pattern called for. I was only about 12″ short, so I figured I’d add in some of the same fabrics used on the front to make the backing big enough. On Friday night, I improvised what you see above. I had wanted it to echo the feathers on the arrows on the front but the blue stripes in the middle looked SO much like a stylized airplane to me — I know, strange but true!. Anyway, that’s not really what I was going for…
I let the backing sit overnight, and on Saturday I decided to get out my seam ripper and make a couple minor changes. I made the blue strip down the middle thinner and then rotated one column of feather pieces by 180 degree so that the blue pieces weren’t right next to each other anymore. Much better!
Now to baste, quilt, and bind it!
