Summary
So apparently Week 5 of C25K is well known to be a killer week — but I haven’t really been looking ahead, and therefore didn’t realize this until early in the week. Day 1 had me running in 5 minutes intervals. Day 2 stretched it to 8 minutes intervals. And then? POW. Day 3 called for 20 straight minutes of running. I haven’t run for 20 minutes straight without walking in…well, I don’t even know. A very long time.
But I did it! I reminded myself to just take it slow, and I did it! I covered ~1.7 miles in those 20 minutes, so I’m looking at somewhere between 35-40 minutes for my 5K next month. I think C25K will get me there if I just stick to it for another 4 weeks, which is definitely my plan.
For most of my C25K workouts, I’ve been adding a bit at the end, but I didn’t add anything to Friday’s run, figuring a solid 20 minutes was good enough. I think next week is 22 minutes, but I should probably look ahead and adjust as necessary to get to 40 minutes by mid-July.
I also did those 20 minutes on Friday morning starting at ~8:10 am, so it was really humid and the sun was beating down on me. Oof. My evening runs really haven’t been bad at all lately, since the humidity is lower and the sun is always very low in the sky. But man. Morning is harder. The 5K next month starts at 7:30 am.
Overall, I’ve now finished 4 weeks of C25K and I love it. I have been happier and felt better. It has mad such a difference in my mental mood at any given time, and that is awesome. I’ve got to keep this going!
Who knows how I suddenly lost 3 pounds this week. I never place too much emphasis on the exact number since it fluctuates a lot from day to day, but the overall trend is down and that’s a good thing.

Nice job. Running in the summer in TX is no joke.
