Here’s #10 of my Digital Media Studies Master’s Project. In January, the European Space Agency’s Rosetta probe “woke up” from a couple years of hibernation and it’s scheduled to go into orbit around Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko in May. Later this year, it will release a robotic lander that will attempt to land on the nucleus of the comet itself.
Fun fact: The probe was originally supposed to launch in 2003 and rendezvous with a different comet, but an Ariane 5 rocket failure and the ensuing investigation delayed Rosetta (which launched on that same type of rocket) by a year. Before it finally launched in 2004, mission planners had to revamp the trajectory and find another comet to target. Fortunately there are a lot of comets hanging around in our solar system!
Although I put this one together quickly, I’m actually pretty pleased with the way it turned out. The text, as usual, could use a little work but it’s good enough.
(Previously: Curiosity, Sputnik, New Horizons, Venera, SOHO, Cassini, Voyager, Hubble, Galileo)

I love how much I’m learning about recent (and older) space missions from your MS project!
