You know what one of the most fun things about having a kid is? I get to do all sorts of fun kid stuff again! Like make valentines for Emma to give to her friends at daycare tomorrow!
This is definitely not my original idea — this exact valentine is all over Pinterest, in so many places that it’s not even possible to give proper credit to whoever originally thought of it. But it’s totally appropriate for toddlers who don’t need candy or trinkets, and it was easy to pull together.
My one contribution was designing my own scalloped heart tags. I created the graphic in Illustrator and saved it as two separate files, one for the inner heart and one for the outer. I imported both of those into the Silhouette software and used the image trace feature to turn the shapes into cut lines. Then before doing anything else, I went back to Illustrator to print the text onto a sheet of pink cardstock.
Cutting time! I ran the same pink sheet through my Silhouette using the inner heart file. I’d never tried that process before — printing then cutting — and while I know the Silhouette has a print-and-cut feature, I actually just did this one manually. I was very careful to line up the cardstock exactly with the grid on the cutting mat so that the heart cut would surround the text, and it worked just fine.
After that, I used a sheet of red cardstock and the scalloped heart outline file to get those pieces, and then it only took a few minutes to tape the pink hears onto the red hearts, punch a hole in each, and tie them around the neck of some GoGo Squeez!
Cute, right? Kid stuff is so much fun sometimes…
