Summary
I used to read while walking on the treadmill, but when I started running more, it was too hard to read so I switched to movies on my iPad. I got a little speaker to get the volume high enough for me to hear over the sound of the treadmill and the fan I point at my face…but it died a couple weeks ago. (Not permanently — it’s rechargeable. But it ran out right as I started to run.)
And that’s how I discovered that I can read on the treadmill after all! I just have to use the Kindle app on my iPad instead of my Kindle itself. After I increased the font size a bit, it worked out fine. I’m pretty excited about this revelation, since the treadmill is a necessity in my life these days but can be mind-numbing, and being able to read makes the time pass quicker than watching a movie.
The other big news in my little running world is that the powers-that-be behind development in my neighborhood have started building into a new section. Last week, they poured the concrete for the roads — and suddenly, for the first time ever, it’s possible to run a loop course from my house instead of just out-and-back! Until now, a full mile of all of my runs has been spent just getting from my house to the main road. A half-mile out at the beginning and a half-mile back at the end. I do like to change things up from time to time, so the single way in/out of my area has always bugged me.
I tried out my new route on Friday and got some strange looks from the construction guys prepping to pour concrete for the curbs, but hey! A new road! New options! I’m stupidly excited about this.

Awesome idea to read on your treadmill! I used to listen to audio books when I was running as it helped pass the time. 🙂

I thought about audio books as well! I’m not sure it would engage my brain quite the same way — it’d be too easy to let my mind wander and lose track of the story, which would just frustrate me. But I might try just in case it works out!
