Summary
My mom walks nearly every single day. In 2013, she covered 1,123 miles. That’s an average of more than 3 miles per day!! She credits a summer full of 5-milers, but even in the years before that, she’s broken 1,000 miles several times. It’s seriously impressive and I greatly admire her commitment. With my on-and-off track record where running is concerned, my mom’s stick-to-it genes obviously didn’t make their way into me.
With both my mom’s mileage and my own motivational issues in mind, I’ve been going back and forth about whether to set my own mileage goal for 2014. Maybe it would motivate me! But it’s just as likely that it wouldn’t. Still, in the spirit of it being a new year, I’ll throw out a goal anyway: 400 miles. I want to run/walk 400 miles this year.
Is that ambitious? For my mom, no. For a lot of people, no. But for me, right now, yes. It means committing to 2-3 runs per week, CONSISTENTLY. I’m going for it.
