For the past few years, I’ve tracked my runs with a Garmin watch, logged them on Running Ahead, and tracked my weight using the True Weight app. This was a pretty easy process, but lately I’ve added several other things to the mix. For the last six months, I’ve been using a Fit Bit to track my daily activity and sleep, and I input any exercise into that app so that my steps get counted. And now as of a week ago, I’m using My Fitness Pal to track calories, and I need to input exercise there also to account for the calories burned. And these days when my workouts involve pushing Emma, I often use the Map My Run app since I can just stick my phone in the stroller instead of wearing my Garmin.
With all this technology, my brain is officially saturated with health and fitness tracking apps, and I want to streamline…but each app does a specific thing that I like. Anyone want to write me an app that combines the best parts of all of these apps into a single one??
Or maybe I could just quit being such a data nerd.

Last Saturday, we went to our first Dynamo game in their new stadium, which opened a year or two ago. It happened to be a playoff game, so there was a large, enthusiastic crowd on hand and the atmosphere was really fun. There really doesn’t seem to be a bad seat in the house and we had a great time even though the game ended 0-0. Emma especially loved joining all the clapping and cheering. I think we’ll be attending a few more games next year!

The weather is supposed to be pretty nice this weekend, if slightly on the warm side for mid-November. Jose started flying again a few weeks ago after an Emma-induced break. He was about halfway done with training for his instrument license before she was born, so after a few refresher lessons, he’s jumping back into that. He may be able to finish the license by spring, which would be cool.

Emma had her 15-month checkup last week and as expected, she is a healthy and happy little girl. She weighed in at 27 pounds 4 ounces and 31 1/4″ tall — 98% percentile for weight and 90% for height, which explains why she’s easily wearing 18 month and even some 24 month size clothes. All four molars are currently working their way in, and I think they’re to blame for her being somewhat cranky over the last couple weeks. The good news is that 3 of the 4 have already partially broken through her gums, so the teething “fun” shouldn’t last much longer. All things considered, she has been a pretty agreeable teether each go-round, so I’m not really complaining!
In the meantime, she continues to make me laugh on a daily basis. On Wednesday night, she discovered that she could crawl through our end table, and even went so far as to push one of our throw pillows in there to rest on. Seems like a weird place to lie down, but I guess it worked for her!

I recently did a sweep of various accounts for things we’re paying for but not using. I’m somewhat embarrassed to admit that we were spending almost $50 every month on stuff that we weren’t using (like Redbox Instant, which started charging me after a one-month trial) just because I hadn’t gotten around to cancelling it. I suppose this is why many companies require you to call them to cancel an account, instead of letting you do it online. Calling takes juuuust enough additional effort that I kept putting it off.

I’ve joined a couple local mom groups on Facebook lately, and the other day someone posted wondering how many 35-and-older “first time or first time in a long time” moms were in the group. I figured there would be several women in that category since a lot of us are having babies later. (I was 34 when Emma was born, will be at least 36 the next time around.) But what really surprised me was how many women responded saying something like “I have a 15-year-old and a 6-month-old” or “I have a kid in college and a 2-year-old.” Like, MAJOR age differences between kids. This blows my mind on two fronts. I can’t imagine having had a kid at 20 or even 25. And I can’t imagine having a sibling 10, 15, even 20 years older or younger than me. Of course there’s nothing inherently bad about either of those things, but it’s just so different from my own experience that it’s hard to imagine.

Thanksgiving is less than 2 weeks away now, and Christmas is not even a full 4 weeks after that. I’ve done essentially zero thinking about the holidays so far, so I guess I need to get in gear.
