Jose, Emma and I spent Saturday morning at the annual Wings Over Houston airshow over at Ellington Field. We met up with my friend Cindy and her 6-month-old son Jake and spent about 2 hours just chatting and wandering around amidst the airplanes. We saw a few B-17 passes and some aerobatics as the flying started, but took off when the “jet truck” took the stage. (I hate the jet truck. It’s a jet engine…on a truck…at an airshow…and it is stupid.)

At this point, there was a plane flying past as Emma helpfully pointed out
This may be my new favorite photo of Emma. You can barely tell it’s at an airshow unless you notice the landing gear right behind her but man, doesn’t she look happy? She had the best time just walking around.
She was also pretty fascinated with Jake and took every opportunity to check him out.
NASA had just a couple things on display including this rover-thing that they trot out every time there’s an event. So of course we had to get a photo. (Maybe I should cut Emma’s bangs, eh?)
Annnnd by this point, a certain someone was getting tired and squirmy! We headed home just before noon since I didn’t want to hang around for Tora Tora Tora anyway — I highly doubt Emma would have been a fan of the explosions. Going and leaving early meant we had zero traffic issues and the weather, as you can see, was GORGEOUS.
All in all we had a lovely time. What a fun family outing!

We missed the airshow this year. I have to admit, I only make the drive if the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds are there. And yeah, I’ve seen Tora Tora Tora so many times…I doubt my kids would get into it yet.
