Summary
I should have run on Friday. I was off work and everything! But I wanted to spend my whole superflex day off work doing fun things like sewing and getting a pedicure, and besides, “I’m definitely going to run tomorrow!” That’s what I told myself.
Well, I should know better than to skip an opportunity for a run these days, because then Saturday came and was a typically full day of errands and Emma, and 9:30 rolled around…and I didn’t feel like a treadmill workout less than 12 hours before a bike ride.
So two runs and a bike ride, just like last week.
There was a time when any run under 3 miles seemed like a waste to me. I don’t know why, but 3 miles just seemed like the “magic” distance to qualify something as a good workout for me. These days I’ve had to adjust my goals because many nights, I have exactly enough time to squeeze in one 35-minute session — 30 minutes plus the 5 minutes of warmup/cooldown the treadmill automatically adds on — and that’s it. And at my pace these days, 2.5 or 2.6 miles is as far as I can get in 35 minutes.
I officially signed up for the Clear Lake Tri at the end of this month. It’s a 0.5 km swim, 23 km bike and 5 km run. I did this race in 2008 (its inaugural year), but it’s since moved from Clear Lake Park on the north side of the lake to South Shore Harbor on the League City side. I’ve heard mixed reviews about the swim — Clear Lake is gross to begin with, but the main complaint seems to be that it stinks of diesel from all the boats in the marina — but I’ll try it at least this year and make my own assessment. I’m not expecting much (who does a triathlon in Houston in AUGUST?) but it’ll be fun to do another one before tri season starts to wind down.
I’ve been flip flopping about whether to sign up for the 5150 race in Galveston in September. They have both an Olympic and a sprint. I don’t think I’m ready to force myself through an Olympic, and the price is a bit steep for “just” a sprint. But Erin and Lisa are signed up for the Oly, so it’s tempting.
