Summary
So it was an ok week: I did manage 3 solid workouts, but one of them was a bike ride. My goal is really to get in 3 RUNS each week, with a possible bike ride as a bonus 4th quality session. (Although we did go over the Kemah bridge this morning, so maybe the bike ride should count as two workouts, eh? If only…!)
I had dinner plans on Thursday and book club on Friday, so my original plan had been to run both Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. And then on Tuesday as Jose was putting Emma to bed and I was cooking dinner, I opened a beer without a second thought. I am not the type of person who can drink a beer and then go for a run — and so my Tuesday run never happened. Talk about a TOTAL rookie mistake! I won’t let that happen again anytime soon.
We were also planning to ride on Saturday but it turned out to be stormy yesterday morning. We postponed until today, which meant that my weekend run had to happen yesterday on the treadmill again instead of outside. I finished watching The Avengers and started Hunger Games — hooray for streaming video! Now that I’m running on the treadmill instead of walking, however, my reading has taken a nose dive.
I also tried stretching my run/walk intervals. I had been doing the run intervals at 12:00 pace and doing a 4/1. But I wondered what would happen if I slowed down to more like 13:00 pace and made the intervals longer. I did that both times this week and was able to do 9/1 without much issue at all! It’s encouraging to know that I can do longer intervals if I just slow down a tad. It’s hard for me to force myself to slow down enough outside — I get overly excited or something — but it’s easy to do on a treadmill. And even if I’m slow right now, I know that I’ll improve if I keep at it.
