Although we had a very nice Thanksgiving in Corpus Christi, the last week has been pretty hectic and stressful.
It started last weekend when Jose felt sick. I mentioned that he stayed home from work on Monday and that I started feeling achy that afternoon. Things went downhill throughout the evening, culminating around 1 a.m. when I woke up and made it to the bathroom just in time to throw up my entire dinner. Needless to say, I stayed home sick on Tuesday and barely moved from the couch.
(Emma somehow avoided the plague entirely. Not sure how she managed that, but I’m thankful that she did!)
I still felt bad on Wednesday but improved enough as the day went on that we did indeed go ahead and drive to Corpus that night. We timed both drives so that Emma would hopefully sleep through most of it and so that we would arrive at the Bucee’s in Wharton — our standard stop for snacks and gas — around 7 p.m. when Emma would be ready for dinner.
The plan worked out better than I had even dared to hope for, and Emma slept the whole way both going there and coming back except to eat in Wharton. Still, traveling with a baby was a whole new experience. We had one bag for me, one bag for Jose — and 4 bags of stuff for Emma. And while overall she did amazingly well with the huge crowd of people at Thanksgiving, she had a few fussy periods that we chalked up to being overstimulated and under-rested.
We came home on Saturday night and I felt happy, but drained. And then I walked into a house that looked like it had been hit by a tornado thanks to the 4 days prior to our trip being filled with work, two sick adults, and packing a ton of baby stuff.
Sigh.
Then I came across another time-lapse video in my Google reader. I think I’m just going to start bookmarking all of these for anytime I need to catch my breath and remind myself that at the end of the day, it’s just a messy house. It’s not the end of the world.

Traveling with a baby by car more than an hour or so is just stressful. I am just glad we haven’t had to travel by plane.

We traveled a lot more when Carina was a baby, she was pretty easygoing as long as she had something to occupy herself with. Made sure she had a bottle to suck on when we were taking off and landing to help her ears equalize. The flight attendents were cracking up when they walked passed our row and saw Jen and I passed out with Carina sitting up in my arms, looking around at everyone.
Anyways, if you haven’t seen this timelapse, it’s awesome.
