This morning I ordered some fabric online for what I’ve decided to make for Emma’s Halloween costume…or at least what I THINK I’m going to make. Do you know how many cute ideas are out there?? I could put her in a different costume for every day of October and not run out of adorable options! She already has 3 non-costume Halloween outfits that I need to start putting her in to get good use out of them, and the costume should be pretty quick to put together. By starting now, it may actually be ready for Halloween!
(In related news, I totally underestimated how fun it is to dress a baby. It is VERY fun.)
I also ordered some quilting fabric for myself. Because, you know, I have soooo much free time for sewing these days. I guess there’s a part of me that still hasn’t accepted that my hobbies aren’t exactly going to be a priority for a while. I’m crazy that way.
Speaking of crazy, I spent most of the day yesterday resisting the temptation to sign up for a late-season triathlon in three weeks. I’ve only been running again for 2 weeks and haven’t been on my bike or in the pool in a YEAR. It’s a short triathlon, and I know I could finish it, but it’s probably not my smartest idea ever. In the end, I compromised by finding a relay partner for the Space City 10-Miler in two weeks. I’ve done 3 miles on my last two run/walk outings without a problem, so I plan to run/walk my 5 miles and just enjoy being in a race again!
I’ve been debating whether to get an iPhone 5 or not. I’ve got an iPhone 4 at the moment (not 4S) and it’s working just fine, save for a slightly finicky home button. If I used it a lot before, I’m using it even more now — I track Emma’s eating and pooping and my pumping, and take a zillion photos. It’s the latter — the photos — that keeps tempting me to upgrade, since the 4S and 5 both have a better camera than the 4. But then I’d have to buy a new case, and a few new accessories since they changed the connector. Does anyone have the 5 yet? What do you think?
Awwwww! Look at that little hand resting on Daddy’s hand!
Emma was 8 weeks on Monday and is doing great. She’s still eating like crazy and I’m betting she’ll weight in at or above the 12 pound mark at her pediatrician appointment this afternoon. Is it crazy if she doubles her birth weight in only 2 months?? She also gets her first big round of vaccines this afternoon, so I’m mentally preparing myself for a few fussy days while secretly hoping she’ll take them in stride. Wish us luck!

My phone is severely in need of an upgrade, home button has had problems for a while, and I am out of contract, but I have been very hesitant about the iPhone 5, mainly because 1. the new connectors (which I’ll have to suck up eventually, so oh well) 2. mainly google maps. i use it all the time. and i do use it when i travel to the northeast for subway and walking directions. the new iphone maps is problemmatic and doesn’t do mass transit or walking directions. even if i use the google web site or an eventual app they release it won’t be integrated with my phone. since after the actual phone and email, maps are probably the thing I use my phone for most, that annoys me. I may actually go android next or wait until apple maps becomes more mature or they give in and go back to google.

I just got my 5 yesterday. I too am upgrading from the 4. First impressions: 1) it is light! I am amazed how much of a difference a few-fewer ounces makes. 2) it is FAST. Didn’t realize my old phone was slow until now.
I use the maps a fair amount, so I actually haven’t switched over my phone service yet. But there seem to be some map alternatives. I’m sure I’ll curse for a year until it gets better.
I decided to buy the phone now because Brian just upgraded his phone in the summer, so this did not actually add much time to our 2 year contract.

It took Isla 5 months to double her weight! Wow – 2 months. Love the chubby thighs.

Here are some super cute kid costume ideas for Halloween. Obviously Emma is to small for some, but I LOVE the popcorn one & the candy corn.

As for the phone, since my iphone 4 crashed to the ground on the 4th of July, forcing me to upgrade to the 4S, I’m not illegible for the 5, but even if I was, I’d likely wait for the 6 or 7 version to come out. I played with one at the apple store last week & it is SUPER light. It almost feels like a prop phone! I like the bigger screen, but I wish they had made the phone wider in addition to being taller. Kevin just traded in his 1st gen iphone for an HTC One X phone & that screen is HUGE compared to the 5. I like his screen a lot more (& I’m a total apple fan-girl).
