My sister and brother-in-law, aka Aunt Katie and Uncle Joel, arrived on Saturday night for a week-long visit. Emma is loving the extra attention for the most part, except for a rather epic hour-long meltdown last night. Whew. That was rough. It was the most inconsolable she’s been to date, at least for me, although Jose says she’s done it once or twice before while he’s been with her.
Our little 7-week-old girl continues to grow like a weed. She’s gained a pound per week since her 2 week checkup and is now weighing somewhere around 11 pounds. It’s kind of crazy but I assume it will level off at some point. I mean, she can’t continue to gain a pound a week forever! That would be insane! She’s outgrown almost all of her newborn clothes at this point except for two onesies and this adorable dress — that I sadly had forgotten she had until I was putting her too-small onesies in the closet and saw it hanging there. Katie and Joel sent it to her, so it’s appropriate that I rediscovered it just in time for her to wear it while they are visiting.
Jose came home from work early today so that we could visit two daycares close to our house and decide which one to use for Emma. We have friends and coworkers who use and have used each one, so I was pretty confident that she’d be fine at either — and indeed she would. But it was interesting to see how different the general “vibe” was from each. Even though both were perfectly acceptable places, we got a better overall feeling from one. It somehow just felt happier and livelier, so it was a pretty easy decision.
The only catch is that we waited a little too long to figure out where we were going to go, and their earliest available opening is November 5 — Emma’s 13-week birthday, and therefore a week later than I’m due back at work. It shouldn’t be too hard to handle that though — Jose can take another week of vacation, or I can stagger my reentry into the working world a little differently than originally planned. We’re lucky to have such a flexible employer, I know.
Life goes on, and things are good!
