Our new little family had a lovely relaxing weekend! Yesterday afternoon, Jose stayed home while I went out and ran a few errands. Things I picked up included:
- A new swaddling blanket for Emma. It has velcro to keep it closed! But our baby Houdini still wormed her arms out within an hour or so. At least it’s cute, if no more effective at a long-lasting swaddle than any of our other blankets.
- A sparkly peridot necklace for Mama! I wanted something with Emma’s birthstone.
- A laptop table from World Market that fits neatly around the couch. Now I can quit using the chaise portion as a table!
- Diapers. Yep. A BIG box of diapers.
And today? Well, this morning was glorious. I fed Emma and pumped at 5 a.m. but then Jose took over and I slept until 10:30. From 6 to 10:30! I never thought I would be so excited about 4.5 hours of sleep, but that’s the longest stretch I’ve gotten since she was born. As a result, I felt fantastic all day. Going 5 hours between pumping sessions probably didn’t helping my breastfeeding issues, but today I didn’t care. That sleep was fabulous. With Jose back at work, it’s not possible to do that during the week, but I can’t wait to do it again next weekend!
This afternoon I vacuumed the living room and discovered that Emma apparently likes it. She had been starting to fuss, and as her bottle was warming up, I decided to do a quick vacuum around the couch. As soon as I turned on the vacuum cleaner, Emma went silent. She was calm as could be until I turned it off, at which point she started to fuss again. I guess all the stuff I’ve read about babies liking white noise is true!
We also took a nice family walk down the block tonight as the sun was going down. I can’t wait until it’s cool enough to take Emma out during the day! It’ll be a good activity for us to do to get out of the house while Jose’s at work.
