A few weeks ago I saw something on Twitter about 30 Days of Creativity, going on for the whole month of June. It sounded like fun and I liked the idea of doing a little something each day — and it really does only have to be something little, since creativity can be so broadly defined! Here’s a rundown of my activities for week 1:
June 1 – I started off simply by decorating this little calendar I have on my desk at work. Each month is just a blank page with the dates printed, so I’ve been doing this each month so far this year. The colors are a little boring since I only used what I had at my desk — black ink pen, yellow highlighter and red fine tip Sharpie. Perhaps I should raid the supply cabinet for a few more colors!
June 2 – I didn’t produce a finished product today, but got started on prep for some baby burp cloths. I’d made a set of 5 the day before to give to our friends Liz and Darren (who had a baby boy last Monday!) and Jose commented that it was time to start making things for our own baby. Good point!
June 3 – I finished a set of burp cloths for our own impending arrival. These are really simple to make — this is the third set I’ve done already. This is also the first official item I’ve made for our baby! Yay! There are many more to come.
June 4 – No sewing today, but I thought about sewing. I saw a neat tile pattern in a store a couple weeks ago and took a photo because I thought it’d make a cool quilt block. I started sketching it out but I think it’s going to be a lot more complicated than I originally planned. It may be a good excuse to learn how to paper piece. Without that, I’m not sure this one will come out right.
June 5 – I’ve got a secret little project in the works that involves applique, which I’ve never done before, so I read a few tutorials and got to work.
June 6 – Ok. Applique not going so well…
June 7 – The third try was successful and my appliqued project turned out decently! I’ll post more about it in a week or two once it’s not a secret anymore.
I have so many sewing projects in the works that it’s easy to turn 30 days of creativity into 30 days of sewing! Maybe in the next week I’ll push myself to do a few non-sewing things too.
