Size of the Baby: A bell pepper, according to one site, or a sweet potato according to another. Either way, about 5.5 inches long and 7 ounces.
Weight gain/loss: It’s a little hard to keep track of what’s what, since my doctor’s scale weighs me 1-2 pounds heavier than my scale at home. But by my count, I’ve gained 9 since the day I got a positive test.
Maternity clothes: I officially wore maternity pants for the first time last week, and dang were they comfy. But I still don’t really need them yet. If my jeans are straight out of the dryer, I have to fasten them with a rubber band but after I’ve worn them for a day, they loosen up enough that I can still button them. Overall, I’m rather amazed that any of my pants still fit, since we’ve been measuring around my hips/waist since week 13 and it’s grown 3.5 inches — but apparently I had a lot more room in some of my pants than I realized.
Sleep: I’m sleeping well again, which I’m quite happy about and hope that it will last a while. (I was pretty tired last week, but that was because I was staying up too late working on projects.) I can even still sleep on my stomach if I get into just the right position.
Movement: Still nothing definite. I thought MAYBE I felt it twice on Friday — it felt like a bubble popping, and I’ve heard it described that way before. But nothing since. My doctor said 18 weeks at the earliest, so maybe I’ll feel something more definite this week?
Best moment this week? No single moment, but I did have a really nice weekend even though it was gray and rainy the entire time. I got to see friends, spend time with Jose, and check a lot of little things off my to-do list. Update: This afternoon I got official confirmation from the doctor that our integrated screening results were all negative, meaning low risk of chromosomal abnormalities. Which is a pretty awesome thing to hear. (They said no news was good news, but I waited an extra week and then called anyway. I wanted to hear that “negative.”) Yay!
Food cravings: I went to a diaper shower for my friend Nujoud (she’s due next month). It was at a Mexican restaurant and I REALLY wanted a margarita. That’s the first time I’ve actually craved a drink, and I really just wanted the taste more than the alcohol. This led to googling “non-alcoholic drinks” and “mocktails,” and asking Jose to get some grenadine and fruit juice when he went to the grocery store.
What I miss: Other than a margarita? Not much. All in all, things are normal. I could say I miss running, and I do, but you know that already. (I’m still walking several times a week. Last week I did 3.5 miles but had some weird aches in my abdomen. I remember Jen talking about round ligament pain, and I suspect that’s what it was. Fortunately it wasn’t bad.)
What I’m looking forward to: We still have 3 weeks to go before we find out the sex, but I’m starting to get a little impatient!
Milestones: We got on the waiting list for the JSC Childcare Center. Even though we joined 5 months ahead of my due date, we still don’t expect to get in there right away (it’s in very high demand) so in the next week or two we plan to visit a couple other daycares close to our house.
We also looked at “baby stuff” for the first time — but totally as a byproduct of being in the baby section already looking for cloth diapers to make burp cloths for the diaper shower. We didn’t browse for too long because frankly, it was overwhelming. How the heck am I supposed to know what I need?

😉 Trust me, plenty of people would probably be happy to give you their opinions about what you do/don’t need! (Note, that in the beginning… you don’t need much!) Take a trusted friend with you.
Also, I’ve heard that for the mid-August “start of school/daycare year”, 7 of the 10 spots in the infant room have already been promised to families who have an older sibling there. I think they’re working a new system where a few slots will open up in January, too. Although, you never know… we were most surprised to get in.
