I skim several dozen blogs on a regular basis. Some eventually get removed from my reader as my interests come and go, and news sites get added. One of my newer finds is oh, hello friend, and she recently encouraged people to make a list of 12 things they want to accomplish by 2012. In other words — what’s on your list that you need to get done by the end of the year?
I love making lists. I also procrastinate — big time. List-making is fun, but I lose steam when it comes to actually FOLLOWING the list. Nevertheless, I’m always up for another try.
My list of twelve wasn’t too hard to make. Most of these items are “around the house” chores that I’ve been meaning to get to for a while, but keep pushing off.
Last progress update: 11/22
- Clean out the garage so that at least one car can fit in there.
- Sew a skirt well enough that I could actually wear it out of the house. (in work)
- Paint the master bedroom.
- Clean up all the clutter in the study. It’s impossible to really relax when I’m working on anything in there because of all the junk.
- Clean out the clutter in the third bedroom. Maybe get a daybed to make it a functional room.
- Complete the rough draft of my master’s project. (in work)
- Dig up the grass in the corner of our backyard while it’s dormant, so we can put in some flowers and mulch that area in the spring.
- Learn how to make a custom WordPress theme and use it to redesign this blog. The current theme is boring, and doesn’t really feel like me, plus I want to be able to make my own. (haven’t done this for my own site yet, but I have been learning more about WordPress while working on a site for a client)
- Run, walk, bike or swim at least four days a week. (done in 3/4 weeks so far)
- Reorganize the kitchen cabinets so that things are easier to find and access. It’s annoying that I can’t easily reach half of the stuff I need when I’m cooking. (While I’m at it, install those last few drawer pulls.)
- Make wall art for above the headboard in the master bedroom.
- Read at least 4 books. (2 down, 2 to go)
I’ll post an update every week or two. Twelve things in ~10 weeks is totally doable! Hopefully I can hold myself accountable.

Lists are good. They help keep me focused. Not sure if you really *like* wall painting, but we had someone come paint our office. He charged us $150 (we supplied the paint). They were in an out in 2 hours!

I don’t love painting, but I do like the feeling of accomplishment when I’m done. Still $150 is not bad. I’ll think about it. 🙂
