- This has been the week from hell. It has been years since I’ve had a week like this at work. It is utter craziness. I have been a whiny mess. Sorry about that.
- This morning I ended up at a meeting full of very high-up individuals. I have no doubt they were wondering who the heck I was and how I ended up at their meeting. I was intimidated. However, something that Jose told me last night turned out to be true: they didn’t know anything more than I did. Which was kind of comforting.
- I still feel crappy. Sore throat, body aches, general discomfort. I went to the doctor yesterday and she gave me a rapid strep test. It was negative, but the PA gave me some antibiotics anyway in light of the fact that I’m about to get on a cruise ship for a week. She said to take them with me and start popping them if the throat gets worse or I start running a fever. At least I’m prepared.
- I have no idea what bug I’ve got. I’m not congested, so it’s not a cold. Maybe just stress, although I’ve never reacted this way to stress before…and I’ve been incredibly diligent about getting sleep this week, even when it meant going to bed at 9:30 because I had to get up at 5:45 for a meeting. So it’s not sleep deprivation either.
- I have been at work every single day this week despite feeling crappy. This is incredibly hypocritical of me, since I’m the one usually telling people to just stay home if they don’t feel good. I feel guilty about this.
- I also feel guilty about being on vacation next week, since with the craziness that has happened at work, me not being here means a lot of other people have to pick up tasks they didn’t expect. To be fair, I didn’t expect them either. Next week was the perfect week for me to be gone…until the Progress accident happened.
- Speaking of the cruise, it leaves from New Orleans on Sunday. And we have to drive to New Orleans on Saturday. And there is a tropical depression that may turn into a tropical storm that we now have to 1) drive through and 2) sail from. Wonderful. One model shows New Orleans getting 17 inches of rain over the next 5 days. I hope my car doesn’t get flooded.
- The doctor also offered me some motion sickness patches. I accepted them as a precaution but in light of the tropical storm, I may be happy I have them.
- I finally signed up for Words with Friends and I’m kind of obsessed at the moment, even though I’m not very good at Scrabble. My user name is ‘saroy’ if you want to play, although don’t be mad when I abandon our game for the next week. I hear internet on cruise ships is crazy expensive. Plus, it’s vacation so I try to avoid the internet anyway.

My cruise experience may only be faintly relevant (Alaska in 2007) but, yes, boat internet is crazy expensive but shore internet cafe and internet at the library is abundant and crazy cheap.
