Our friends Katie and Andrew, who we’ve gotten to know very well over the last couple years, are moving back to Ohio today. Although they are excited to get back to where their families are, we are sad and will miss them a lot. But before they left, we made sure to do plenty of fun things! A couple weeks ago we all went on a 2-hour cruise around Clear Lake courtesy of a Groupon the boat company ran a few months ago.
The boat left from South Shore Marina in League City. Since the tour was only 2 hours, we went from the marina into Clear Lake, under the Kemah bridge, and just a short way out into Galveston Bay before turning around to come back.
The interior of the boat was pretty nice. We grabbed a big table on the second level next to the bar (since the Groupon came with free drink coupons!) and hung out inside for most of the ride since it was so hot outside. There was food downstairs so we had a couple snacks too. As we motored through the lake, the captain occasionally announced some random facts about Clear Lake and pointed out local landmarks like NASA and a house that Howard Hughes apparently lived in at some point.
We got a nice view of Kemah just before the boat turned around. Although it was lunch time, the boardwalk didn’t look too crowded — probably because of the heat. (I still haven’t been on that roller coaster they built a few years ago. Must do that someday.)
When we got back, we all headed out for a late lunch. I had never been on one of these boats before and though it felt kind of ridiculous to cruise around “boring old Clear Lake,” it was definitely a fun thing to do with friends.
Here’s the full set of photos from our excursion!
I meant to buy that groupon deal, but missed it! I went on a similar cruise around Clear Lake for work and had a great time. Looks like you guys enjoyed it!
