Yesterday I turned 33! It was a fun and relaxing day and a nice end to another year. I had a yummy Carrabba’s dinner with friends on Friday night and have plans for dinner again tonight. Yesterday Jose and I lounged around, watched TV, went for a walk, and did a little yardwork. (I kinda like yardwork, so I didn’t mind doing it on my birthday.)
Last night we celebrated with a trip way (way) across town to the Sam Houston Race Park to see Cirque du Soleil’s Ovo. This is the 4th or 5th Cirque show that I’ve seen, and Ovo did not disappoint. We left home super early to make sure we’d still make the show even if we got stuck in traffic — but there weren’t any significant slowdowns, which means we got there a full half hour early. We made use of the time by trying on silly hats in the souvenir tent.
Ovo was about bugs — the costumes were great, and the acts were suitably awe-inspiring. It was tough to pick a favorite. We also had great tickets since it was my birthday present — on the 4th row!! — and so you could see the performers faces and expressions. You could even see them breathing, readjusting their hand position to make sure it was right for whatever feat they were about to perform. It was really cool to be so close that you could see them preparing themselves for what came next.
Thanks to my awesome husband for taking me out for my birthday! And thanks to everyone else for the birthday wishes via email, phone, Facebook and Twitter! They all made me smile.

My heart was in my throat for the whole trapeze act. That was probably my favorite because it was so nerve wracking.
