There is a particular intersection in Clear Lake where hundreds — perhaps even thousands — of grackles like to congregate. They occupy huge stretches of power lines and fill the trees. On the one hand, it’s a bit creepy, as if they are planning for some kind of attack a la “The Birds“. But it’s also kind of fascinating to watch them because they tend to take off and re-land en masse. I seem to notice them in particular when I’m in the area at sunset. Something about the silhouettes of hundreds of birds just hanging out always draws my attention.

I’ve always found it fascinating to look at the spacing between birds. I wish I knew how they did that but it is almost always even. Birds are OCD.
