Having had 2 Japanese teachers in 1st and 2nd grades I felt I could understand. I remember that the 2nd grade teacher in particular followed this path of teacher/parenting. She would tell us all we were going to be rubbish men if we didn’t work hard.
I’m sorry, no sleep over parties? the only musical instruments that are acceptable are violin or piano? no sports? really? this is supposed to be a wakeup call for American mothers to be tougher? is that necessary to raise intelligent/successful student-children? as I both went to sleepover parties AND outperformed some of my classmates raised in the Chinese-way, I think not.
