This month, gifts and gift-giving can seem inescapable. What’s the most memorable gift, tangible or emotional, you received this year?
Whew! It’s been a whirlwind few days as we left Corpus Christi on Monday afternoon, spent just under 24 hours at home, and then departed Tuesday evening for Charlotte! We managed to overlap with Katie and Joel just enough to hang out with them yesterday before they left this morning, but we missed Brian and Cindy and Daniel — and we missed the snow they got on Christmas evening and the day after!
I receive a lot of great gifts this year, for Christmas and for other occasions. But one of the things that I always enjoy, year in and year out, is time with my family. With people in Charlotte, Miami, Seattle, and Houston, we are pretty spread out and it’s very rare that we are all together in one place. Christmas used to be the standby gathering, but now that three of us kids are married and have in-laws to visit as well, even Christmas isn’t a guarantee. As we all start to have kids and celebrate the holidays in our own homes, I guess the gatherings will get even more rare. Maybe we’ll have to start scheduling giant family vacations! Like Jose’s family did this year — rent a beach house and gather together for the week!
With Brian and Cindy’s wedding in August, we got an extra opportunity to all be in one place at one time, and it was great. That’s one of the biggest gifts I get anymore: time with my family. Because they are awesome.
