What was the wisest decision you made this year, and how did it play out?
In mid-October, I made the decision to take a rotational assignment in a totally new job at work. The past couple months have been a bit of a roller coaster ride, because I’m learning the new job while keeping one foot in my old job (due to the fact that STS-133 keeps getting delayed) — but overall, things are shaping up VERY well and I’m more and more convinced that working somewhere new for a while is a very wise decision. In two months, I’ve already been given significant responsibility and meaningful tasks, and that makes me feel really good about my role in the organization and my career in general. On top of that, I REALLY like all the people in the group itself. So far, it’s looking like a win-win.
What are 11 things your life doesn’t need in 2011? How will you go about eliminating them? How will getting rid of these 11 things change your life?
- Our disaster of a study. It just needs a solid day of cleaning and organizing, and then it wouldn’t annoy me anymore!
- Weight gain. Hopefully the weight loss that I’ve managed this past year will continue. At worst, I want to maintain. No gaining!
- TV and internet. Of course I’m not eliminating them; what I really mean is what I mentioned a week or so ago. I want to spend less mindless time watching TV and surfing the web, and more time reading, crafting, etc.
- My unfinished digital media final project. If I don’t finish this by the end of 2011, I might as well just give up because frankly, that’s absurd. I have no excuse for not having finished this by now and gotten my M.A. 2011 is the year.
- Our non-existent budget. Just because we’re fortunate enough to live comfortably doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have a better understanding of where our money is going. Time to make a budget.
- Empty picture frames. Which should be eliminated by FILLING them. I’m thinking of two frames in particular that are calling out for a wedding photo.
- Being tired all week. The one downside of the new job so far is that I often have to be at work at 7:30…or 7:00…or even 6:00. (It’s just part of what happens when you work with international partners who are many, many time zones away.) If I know I’ve got to be in early the next day, I need to go to bed earlier.
Ok, I’m out of things. If I come up with 4 more later, I’ll post them. In the meantime, I’m just going to take it as a good sign that there aren’t 11 things I need to eliminate from my life!

This month, I’m participating in Reverb10, which charges you to “reflect on your year and manifest what’s next.” There’s a different prompt every day.
