There are surprisingly few veterans in my family. My uncle went to Vietnam and my cousin spent some time in Iraq. Neither of my grandfathers fought in WWII. One was a dairy farmer and the other worked for the city water department — both vital services on the homefront, so on the homefront they stayed. But the fact that my family doesn’t have much military history only underscores the whole point, which is: there are a lot of people out there who DO fight for us, even though they don’t know us. I get to work on spaceships because someone else is out there making sure that we’re secure enough to even bother with building spaceships in the first place.
So hooray for veterans! Our country is pretty awesome. Thanks for keeping it that way.
