Nothing has really gone as planned in the past 24 hours.
- Last night I went over to the high school track to do my speedwork — only to find the field was otherwise occupied with football players and fans in the stands. The middle school track next door was similarly tied up. The swapping of workouts I talked about a few days ago? Did not work out so well this week. I ad-libbed by going home and running from the house. My schedule called for 6×1000 in 5:50 with recovery for half that time, so I just set my watch for 6 repeats of 6 minutes fast/3 minutes recovery.
- The Project Runway finale was soooo disappointing. The winner made me want to throw things at the TV.
- I awoke this morning to the news that STS-133 launch has been delayed a day due to yet another leak in the propellant system. A launch on Monday was going to work so perfectly for me — my first shift would be Tuesday morning, so I was going to take a three-day weekend this time. Then after undocking, things were going to work out such that I could have a FOUR-day weekend. But now? All my grand plans are ruined! But that’s life in the space business. I hope the estimate of a 1-day turnaround is accurate and we can launch on Tuesday!
- Just after I found out about the launch slip, I heard that it was too windy for the hot air balloons to launch this morning as part of the Ballunar Fest, so there were no balloons to admire floating through the clear sky as I drove to work.
But on the plus side?
- The weather is AWE. SOME. thanks to yesterday’s cold front.
- I walked into the house last night to find my husband looking like this:
Someone is ready for Halloween!
