It was another lovely relaxing weekend full of sunshine and mild weather. I could get used to this. Oh Houston, you’re such a tease.
I ran 11 miles on Saturday morning, my longest run since the half marathon last January. It went really well and I finished right smack in the middle of my 11:00-12:00/mile long run pace range. I did a 5/1 run/walk, so my run pace ends up being slightly faster than 11:00/mile and the walking makes it average out. I’ve done a run/walk on every long run so far except the 10-miler last weekend…and I’m thinking I should try to break the habit. At a minimum, I can upgrade to more like a 9/1 or 10/1 — like we essentially did at the 10-miler, where we walked at each mile marker. I suspect that at this point the walk breaks are primarily a MENTAL crutch rather than a physical aid. Long runs don’t seem as long when I know I can walk in a few minutes. This weekend is a cut-back week so I’m only planning to run 6-7 miles. I’m going to go for no walk breaks for that one.
We went to the Aeros game yesterday with Jason and Debbie. It was only their second game at home this season so you’d think all the fans would come out for opening weekend, right? Not so much. The Toyota Center was as empty as I’ve ever seen it. Debbie actually started counting people in the stands — because the game, which the Aeros ended up losing 8-2, was not exactly keeping our attention — and by her estimation, there were about 1000 people there. We still had fun, and got two tickets to the airshow this weekend as a bonus for buying 4 tickets, so it was win-win. Except for the part where the Aeros lost. But you know what I meant.
