This is what the sky looked like on Saturday, the day that I’m declaring to be the Last Day of Summer. Yesterday a “cold” front blew through, and this morning it was a lovely, gorgeous, refreshing, AMAZING 65 degrees outside. The temperature hasn’t been that low since May 9. For those keeping score at home, that’s more than FOUR MONTHS. Walking out of the house this morning felt soooo gooood.
Jose’s mom is in town, and we had a nice weekend with her. We went out to dinner on Friday night at Panda Express — which is, no joke, her favorite restaurant in the area. (Jose’s brother loves it too. And they don’t have one in Corpus Christi.) On Saturday we tried the new Clear Lake location of Chuy’s, and it did not disappoint. We also saw “The Town” at the movie theater, which was really good — highly recommended. We watched a lot of bad TV, ran some errands, and cooked some meals. I also made another tres leches cake, and can I just say? YUM.
This weekend was a cut back weekend for my half marathon training after three weeks of building mileage with a 6, 7, and 8 mile run. I needed to do 5 miles yesterday, and compromised with Jose by running it on the treadmill at the Y while he worked out too. Titanic was on TV, so I set the treadmill on a nice and easy 5.2 mph and ran for an hour while the giant ship slowly sank into the north Atlantic and Kate Winslet cried that she’d “never let go, Jack, I’ll never let go.” I finished as the old lady dropped the giant diamond necklace into the ocean, and then admitted that the treadmill actually wasn’t so bad for an easy and relatively short run. I can’t wait to get back outside to enjoy this week’s weather, though.
